Abstract

With this study we aimed to examine secondary school teachers’ perceptions of the “crabs in a bucket” phenomenon. Employing a quantitative survey design, the study collected data from 399 secondary school teachers using a Personal Information Form and the Crabs in a Bucket at Schools Scale. Descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, and standard deviation) and parametric and non-parametric tests were employed for data analysis. The findings indicate that teachers’ perceptions of the crabs in a bucket phenomenon were at a moderate level. No statistically significant differences were found based on age, gender, marital status, professional seniority, or years of service at the school. However, significant differences emerged regarding education level and teaching branch. These results suggest that enhancing teachers’ and administrators’ awareness of the crabs in a bucket phenomenon may help mitigate its negative effects within school environments.
